India, led by Rohit Sharma, defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match at Dubai on February 20. Shami took five wickets to bowl out Bangladesh for 228, while Gill’s century sealed the win.

Shami’s fifer outshone Towhid’s century.

India took five wickets in the first five overs. Shami and Rana took three, while Axar struck twice to leave Bangladesh at 35/5.

Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali built a 154-run partnership to revive Bangladesh. Shami broke the stand by dismissing Ali in the 43rd over. Ali scored 68 runs off 114 balls at a 59.65 strike rate.

Even after Ali’s dismissal, Hridoy kept scoring and reached his century. He became the fifth Bangladesh batter to score a Champions Trophy hundred and the ninth to do so on debut.

India bowled out Bangladesh for 228 but Bangladesh recovered well from 35/5, thanks to Hridoy and Ali. Shami starred with a fifer, while Rana took three and Axar grabbed one. India needed 229 to win.

Rohit Sharma completed 11,000 ODI runs.

Rohit Sharma became the second-fastest to 11,000 ODI runs, achieving the milestone in 261 innings. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar (276), while Virat Kohli remains the fastest (222).

Shubman Gill scored a brilliant century, guiding India to victory.

Rohit and Shubman Gill gave India a strong start with a 69-run opening stand before Rohit fell in the final powerplay over. Kohli (22), Iyer (15), and Axar (8) got starts but couldn’t convert them into big scores.

KL Rahul joined Gill and batted till the end as Gill completed his century in 125 balls, his second consecutive ODI ton. It was his eighth ODI century, making him the fastest Indian to reach this milestone. Rahul remained unbeaten on 41 off 47 balls, sealing India’s win with a six, while Gill finished on 101*.

India will face arch-rivals Pakistan at the same venue on February 23. Rohit Sharma’s team has winning momentum, while Mohammad Rizwan’s Pakistan will seek their first tournament win.
