Earlier, New Zealand set a record for the highest total in ICC Champions Trophy history, scoring 362 runs against South Africa, powered by brilliant knocks from Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson.

Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson both hit centuries, setting up New Zealand’s big total. Ravindra scored 108 off 101 balls with 13 fours and a six, while Williamson made 102 off 94 balls, hitting 10 fours and two sixes. Their strong partnership gave New Zealand a commanding start after electing to bat first.

In the later stages, Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips added crucial runs, both scoring 49. Mitchell’s aggression and Phillips’ unbeaten knock helped New Zealand finish strongly. South Africa’s bowlers struggled, with Lungi Ngidi taking three wickets, Kagiso Rabada two, and Wiaan Mulder one, but they all conceded plenty of runs.

In response, South Africa started strongly with a 105-run stand between captain Temba Bavuma (56) and Rassie van der Dussen (69). However, Mitchell Santner’s spin broke the momentum, dismissing both batters and leaving South Africa struggling at 161-3.

After these key dismissals, South Africa’s innings lost momentum as wickets fell regularly and partnerships failed to build. David Miller fought hard with a stunning unbeaten 100 off 67 balls, but lacked support from the other end. In the end, South Africa fell 50 runs short of the target.
