BCCI’s new rule
The pitches have endured heavy use after a long domestic season. A Cricbuzz report says these rules aim to keep them in top shape for IPL 2025. Recently, BCCI also barred IPL grounds from hosting any local or unofficial league games.
Before the season opener, teams can have up to seven three-hour practice sessions under floodlights. Two of these can be practice matches or open nets, as per the team’s choice, BCCI stated in a note to franchises, according to a Cricbuzz report.
Practice matches will be conducted on a side wicket of the main square. If played under floodlights, they must not last more than 3.5 hours. According to Operational Rules, teams must obtain BCCI’s prior written approval for these matches. To maintain pitch quality, no practice sessions or matches are allowed on the main square in the four days before a team’s first home game. However, one side wicket per team will be available for range hitting. The home franchise can request additional support from the State Association if needed.
The BCCI has established a procedure to handle practice conflicts when two teams wish to train at the same time. The first step is a discussion between team managers. If they cannot reach an agreement, BCCI will step in after reviewing both sides’ requests.
After the season begins, partially open nets will be prohibited. However, each team will be provided one wicket for range hitting, run-ups, throwdowns, and other training drills.
